Dear heart, I believe you've misread my words.  If you'll re-read what I wrote, you'll see that my comment about violence and colonialism was directed toward Swiss Family Robinson.  How I wish they had been truly, neutrally, peacefully Swiss in their engagement with the indigenous folk.

Bambi, though, is a real sweetheart; I grieved her mother's death.  Rest assured, Smokey Bear and I organized the rest of the forest critters and brought the bereaved Bambi family at least a week's worth of casseroles.

Bambi a racist? Really? That's  a first for me. 
 
Bambi, how do you feel about such an allegation? Are you and Thumper galloping out at night into the forest to join the Knights of the Klu Klux Klan in a traditional cross burning? Does Smokey the Bear make you put out the fire, or does he join in the festivities of intolerance as well?

Ahhhh, the good old days -- watching a movie in the station wagon, pillows fluffed up, homemade popcorn, allowed to go out of the house in our jammies . . . it didn't get any better than that.

Except that while all the other kids' parents took them to see Bambi or Swiss Family Robinson (a hideous film, by the way, in its racist, violent colonialism), MY folks took us to see things like "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner?" that made us decidedly uncool when our friends asked us what we got to see at the drive-in the night before . . .
