PRESS RELEASE
Citizens Invited to Assess Neighborhood Greenway

April 17, 2012 (Moscow, Idaho) - Join the City of Moscow's Active Living Task Force in assessing proposed routes in Moscow to potentially be designated as a Neighborhood Greenway. The Task Force invites anyone interested to meet at Friendship Square on Saturday, April 21st at 10 a.m. to walk the route and assist in assessing it for potential implementation within our community.

Neighborhood Greenways are streets with low traffic volume and speed where bicycles, pedestrians, and neighbors are given priority. Goals of the Greenway project are to provide a route throughout Moscow to allow for safer bicycling and pedestrian connections, help people cross busier streets, provide signage for direction or destinations, and the potential to reduce auto traffic and speeds.

As the Seattle Neighborhood Greenways Blog, notes, "Neighborhood Greenways ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience that safely connects community services and amenities. A number of benefits will be seen across the city, neighborhood, street and human scale, such as: efficient traffic and fewer accidents, increase in local economic activity and real estate values, more fitness opportunities leading towards better public health, reductions in CO2 emissions, an increase in native habitat and biodiversity and a more pleasant and beautiful street. A fantastic place to be!"
