Another question concerning retirement . . .

How long must a member of congress "serve" before they are eligible for retirement.

Although I was promoted to sergeant first class in March of 1986, I could not retire a day sooner than June 15, 1989, the day I completed twenty years of service (I'm still kinda hungover from that party).

And another thing . . .

Unlike members of congress, I was either on the job or on-call 24/7.

What about congress?
