Greetings Visionaires -
Each city council session opens with a segment titled Renewing Our Focus.
This segment was initially introduced by Mayor Chaney and adopted by the
city council.
The purpose of Renewing Our Focus is to highlight good deeds, good
news, and the people and activities that inspire us and make our community
great . . . .
Since its outset, various city council members presented speeches, films,
and activities by local organizations; all designed to emphasize unity and
common cause of our citizenry.
Yet, on Monday, Councilor Steed took advantage of the time allotted for
Renewing Our Focus to divisively criticize and respond to letters to the
editor of the Daily News, letters regarding city commissions
recommendations and city council responses to those recommendations.
Certainly Mr. Steed could have responded to these letters/responses in a
similar fashion, on his own time, by communicating his personal response
in a letter to the Daily News editor, instead of exploiting a valued
segment of a city council session for personal reasons; reasons which may
serve to divide instead of unite the people of Moscow.
Judge for yourselves . . .
