This poor soul. His world will not be the same after May 21st. He will discover he made a mathematical error and set a new date. Of course we all know that even a broken clock can be right twice a day. Eventually, one of these doomsayers will be correct. Ironically, we just won't know which one until just before we die.

"A New York man spent his entire $140,000 life savings advertising his
prediction that the world will end May 21."
And when he wakes up on May 22nd?
Hmmm.
