ExxonMobil/Imperial Oil recently submitted a transportation plan to truck 60-plus mega-loads through Moscow and up US 95, where they would then head east into Montana and then north up to the Alberta Tar Sands. The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is currently reviewing the plan. A public input meeting sponsored by the City of Moscow will be held at the Hamilton Indoor Recreation Center, 1724 East F Street in Moscow, this Wednesday evening at 7pm. Moscow's Mayor Nancy Chaney has insisted that such a public meeting be held so that Moscow citizens can provide input to the ITD and ExxonMobil/Imperial Oil about this proposal. Citizens may wish to submit written statements or speak at the meeting.
Prior to the meeting, at 5:30 pm, citizens will gather on the grounds of the Eggan Youth Center, 1515 East D Street, to demonstrate and walk with a 200-foot long rope-replica of the mega-loads. Feel free to bring a banner and safety pins to attach it. If not, bring a sign and walk with it. Thanks to the newly formed Wild Idaho Rising Tide, a group fighting global warming, for coordinating this rally and their efforts opposing the mega-loads in Moscow.
