The same polarization exists on the topic of education reform.  Even on the local level.  The current system is not as effective as it could be.  As long as one side thinks that all teachers are slackers and the other thinks they are all heroes and know what's best, little positive change will take place.

  This is the shame of a lot of contemporary politics: the rhetoric is so polarized and over the top that rational discussion of gun laws and other issues is impossible.
