Global average land and ocean surface temperatures in Jan. 2011 were cooler
than recent months (degree of anomaly compared to historical average
baseline for each month), which is no surprise given we are in a La Nina
period. The global average surface temperature in recent months has been
warm considering the influence of La Nina.

But the record low Arctic sea ice extent for January 2011 is continuing
evidence of the impacts of anthropogenic climate warming forcings on global
climate.
