Message received: Phil Smith, 59, of Spokane, holds a Valentine's Day card
he picked up from the bench at the corner of Main Avenue and Washington
Street on Monday. An unknown person placed the cards and hearts at the same
site where a backpack bomb was left on Jan. 17 before the start of the
Martin Luther King Jr. Day Unity March. Smith, who lives nearby, said he
witnessed the emergency response to the explosive device from his apartment.
