Subject: Range Management Symposium

FYI

Greetings from the Society for Range Management’s 2012 Annual Meeting
Committee,

The Pacific Northwest, which comprises British Columbia, Washington and
Oregon, and Idaho Sections of the Society for Range Management are the
hosts for the annual international meeting to be held in Spokane,
Washington, January 29 through February 3, 2012. Borrowing from the Native
American winter dance tradition, the Annual Meeting Committee adopted the
Winter Dance theme “Lessons from the Past – Strategies for the Future” as
the foundation for our meeting.

In these financially challenging times, we will provide your organization
with the most efficient use of limited funding for training opportunities.
The Monday morning Plenary session will officially set the stage for a week
of workshops and training, symposia, poster presentations, technical tours,
and numerous net-working opportunities. These sessions touch on the
technical, cultural and economic aspects of managing the rangeland resource

Three focus areas have been established for this meeting: Ecological Site
Descriptions (ESD), Native American (First Nations) Rangelands, and a
Ranchers’ forum. Two ESD workshops focus on different levels of the
development and application of ESDs. The two-day Native American (First
Nations) workshop continues work from the Billings SRM meeting to highlight
success stories and to address complex rangeland management issues on
tribal and/or traditional use lands. The Ranchers’ Forum will break new
ground with thought-provoking topics such as ranch succession, crooked calf
syndrome, and sage grouse, all issues that cross management borders and
will be available on a webinar for the first time in SRM Annual Meeting
history!

In addition to the aforementioned activities, over 40 learning events will
be taking place addressing diverse topics including: conservation of
burrowing owls, climate change in North American rangelands, riparian
management, invasive species, fire ecology, wild and feral horses, and
collaborative management across stakeholder groups. A more detailed list of
topics is included on the following page.

We encourage you to provide this incredible training opportunity to your
employees.

Visit http://www.rangelands.org/spokane2012/ for more information. Meeting

significantly cheaper than late and on-site registration with an upcoming
deadline of December 18th!.*

Sincerely,

SRM Spokane 2012 AMC Chairmen - Kevin Guinn & Will Keller, Pacific
Northwest Section, and J.D. Wulfhorst, Idaho Section
