Anonymous benefactor antes up $100K for Idaho rink

MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) - The manager of the Palouse Ice Rink says an anonymous benefactor has pledged to donate $100,000 to expand the rink, if county officials agree to give the rink a 50-year lease to use Latah County Fairgrounds land.

The Lewiston Tribune reports that manager Bryan Hawn said legal counsel for the Latah County Commission is reviewing the proposal and it will be discussed by the Latah County Fair Board as well.

The three-quarter-size sheet rink opened in 2001. Hawn said expanding the rink to full size is expected to cost about $3 million. He hopes to bank about $1.5 million to cover starting costs before breaking ground, possibly as early as spring 2013.
