These calls are still going out. I received one on all three of our phones the other day, and just got another one on my cell phone again right now. The caller ID says the call came from 214-232-0615.

PRESS RELEASE
Telephone Debit Card Scam Alert

August 24, 2011 (Moscow, Idaho) - The Moscow Police Department would like to notify citizens of a telephone debit card scam. During the weekend of August 20th, the Moscow Police Department received several complaints involving a telephone scam related to debit cards. Several individuals received the same prerecorded message stating the individuals Wells Fargo debit card was either frozen or deactivated. The message then explained that to reactivate the card, the card holder must call another telephone number and provide account and PIN information or the message asked the card holder to enter their account information.

The Moscow Police Department asks that people not respond to this request. This is an ongoing scam.

If any citizen receives a telephone call from anyone asking for financial account information, before providing any information, contact your local banking institution to confirm the request.

Again, the Moscow Police Department asks everyone to not respond to these messages and do not provide any banking information of any kind that comes to you via phone request, text or e-mail messages.

For more information on this scam alert please contact the Moscow Police Department at 882-COPS (2677).
