While I sympathise with the desire to keep Latah in one district, there are other things to consider. One needs to look at all the guide lines laid out for the commission. It is difficult to satisfy all of them, so they need to find the best balance. The Democrats plan have Latah and Benewah combined. That portion is laudable. What is wrong with thier plan is that it make one vary large district that runs from Shoshone County down through Idaho County. That is much too large and violates the guide lines of easy access with out gong though other districts. To keep Shoshone county with a northern district, there is no other choice but to split Latah. Where that split should be is justifiably debatable.
