Unleashed: Hadley, cat who was rescued after being burned, ready for
adoption

Hadley, the burned cat who was brought back to health by the Humane Society
of West Michigan, is ready for a new home. Note to potential adopters,
though: The little guy's got a lady friend.

When a 1-year-old orange tabby arrived at the the Humane Society in July
2009 in stable but serious condition after being doused with gasoline and
set on fire in the Northwest part of Grand Rapids, his distraught owners,
unable to afford medical expenses, gave him up. Staff members named him
Hadley and raised more than $10,000 to cover his care.

With assistance from People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals, a reward
was offered to catch the person who burned the cat, but no perpetrator was
found. Hadley gradually recovered and found companionship with Minnie, a
black cat who arrived at the Humane Society in in February 2010 with an
injured front leg.

The two cats are now "inseparable," said Nicole Cook, HSWM's marketing and
events coordinator, and are up for adoption as a pair. An announcement went
up Tuesday on Hadley's Facebook page -- he's become a bit of a social-media
icon for the Humane Society -- with a link to adoption information on the
HSWM website.

Cook said there has been a lot of interest so far. The Humane Society will
accept applications from anybody interested in adopting the pair through
April 26. The cats will require special care, but are plenty sociable. Also:
those faces!
