Montana issues travel permit for megaload
April 8, 2011, 2:58 pm
The Montana Department of Transportation has issued a permit that would
allow an Imperial Oil test module to enter the state. The decision clears
the way for the megaload to leave Lewiston on Monday.
The test module has been at the Port of Lewiston waiting out forecasts of
snow on Lolo Pass as well as the clearance from Montana that allows it to
travel 7 miles into that state to a private parking lot at Lolo Hot
Springs.
Imperial Oil hopes shipping it across north central Idaho will demonstrate
that U.S. Highway 12 is a viable route for over-sized loads that take both
lanes of traffic.
