Gary raises two issues:

In reverse:

1. Shirley did not respond to a concern that Gary, one of her constituents raised on V 2000, a public forum, and one where Shirley posted an opinion about responding to all constituents and becoming cognizant of their concerns.

I think that Shirley should have made/should make a response to Gary. Maybe she did, and maybe she hit the wrong key which caused the blank response (it's happened to me). If she is unaware that she sent an empty response, then someone should inform her so that she can correct it.

2. Gary writes:

"My point is why would be want to send to Boise someone whose views differed so jarringly with those of the majority of the districts residents and who would be so totally out of step with Idaho's sporting heritage?"

There are many issues at stake in this (and generally in most elections). Perhaps a candidate's position on weapon control/laws is a litmus test for some part of the electorate; it appears to be to so for Gary. Others may have different litmus tests, but hopefully most voters will base their decision after learning a candidate's position a wide variety of issues.

Further, not all sportspersons/hunters/etc are completely in accord with the extreme positions of the NRA. Some oppose allowing the use of automatic or even semi-automatic weapons for hunting purposes. Some even oppose the possession of such weapons for any purposes except by law enforcement officers and military personnel. Among sportspersons and all the rest of Idaho citizens there is a great diversity of views on weapon control/laws and weapon possession, and there is a great diversity of views on the relative importance of that issue for a state legislator.

It would be rare to find any voter completely in agreement on all issues with any candidate since we are dealing with a wide variety of and nuances of values and beliefs about so-called factual matters whose probabilities of truth are not certain. I will vote for Shirley in this elections for reasons that should be obvious, and in the past have given her campaigns financial support.

But there are many issues upon which Shirley and I disagree with various degrees of intensity. Our areas of agreement/disagreement and the reasons she gives for her positions make her and will continue to make her a much more thoughtful and informed legislator more in tune with my values and beliefs and I think with the majority of the electorate of her legislative district.

I thought I made it clear that her opportunities to make trouble for Idaho's firearms owners would be few and far between and that should any arise, her lonely and ineffective voice would be unlikely to win any over to her cause . My point is why would be want to send to Boise someone whose views differed so jarringly with those of the majority of the districts residents and who would be so totally out of step with Idaho's sporting heritage?

All of this overlooks the larger question which continues to be, why is she "killing democracy" by refusing to respond to the question on this relevant topic?

Despite all her posturing, I guess expecting answers to a voters request for information must be the exclusive right of those on the left.

  Gary,

Presuming the worst, what is the actual capacity for a state senator (esp. in a Republican-dominated state) to deal damage to your second amendment rights? Understand that Heller and McDonald currently stand in the way of all but the most common-sense restrictions.

While we wait patiently for Ms. Ringo to summon up the courage and the rhetoric to respond to my inquiry why don't we
take a look at what an F grade entails. From the NRA/PVF web site:
F-"True enemy of gun owners' rights. A consistent anti-gun candidate who always opposes gun owners' rights and/or actively leads anti-gun legislative efforts, or sponsors anti-gun legislation."

Sounds just like what we need in Boise. Granted the opportunities for her to damage the second amendment are few and far between but, none the less
this hardly seems like values representative of district 6. Fortunately for hunters and firearms enthusiasts Ms. Ringo will be spending the lions share of her
time in Boise (should we be so unfortunate as to see her sent back) working on schemes to increase taxes and searching for ways to express her undying gratitude to the unions that are her biggest supporters:
          Idaho Education Association
          Idaho AFL-CIO
          National Association of Social Workers

I would suggest giving Mr. Young a second look. I honestly believe that his values are more closely aligned with those of the voters in Latah Co.
than those of "The progressive from six."

That strikes me as a Democracy killing non response to a perfectly valid question.

    Visionaries:

As you might imagine, I think Mr. Rozen missed the point.

In any event, I think I know him better than before.
