"Tigger" the cat was the star of the show and even startled the coyote at
one point.

HUNTINGTON BEACH ( KTLA) -- Cats are usually easy prey for coyotes, but
that wasn't the case for a pair of feisty felines in Huntington Beach.

Lloyd Roberts' surveillance camera captured a close-encounter between a
coyote and his cats Tigger and Buddy.

The 12-minute-long video, taken just before 1 p.m. On Oct. 3, shows the
cats walking cautiously through Roberts' yard as the coyote approaches
them.

At one point, Tigger -- the star of the show -- can be seen arching his
back and staring down the coyote face-to-face.

The coyote, apparently not hungry or just not in the mood, walks away and
wanders around the yard for a bit. Tigger watches the coyote's every move.

The fearless cat eventually steps out into the yard and startles the
coyote, which was circling a shed.

Roberts says he was unaware of the drama that was unfolding in his yard
until he went out to work on the lawn.

He then charged after the coyote along with Tigger, who chased the animal
over a wall.

Roberts says he believes his cats' familiarity with dogs gave them the
courage to stand up to their enemy.

A third cat was sleeping inside the house during the entire ordeal.
