Visionaries:

When Isaac Young failed to show up for the KRFP call-in show with me, I worried that something might be wrong. He had participated in all of the other forums. Then I learned he deliberately decided not to attend, even though he had promised to be there.

When I make the commitment to run for office, I consider it my job to be accessible to all potential voters. They should have the opportunity to question me on all relevant topics so they have information for voting. Being awarded a vote is an honor and a responsibility.

Candidates attend a number of forums during the course of a campaign. >From one forum to another, the audiences vary in terms of their political leanings. I have certainly participated in forums where I knew the majority of those in attendance would not agree with my views.

If elected, we should serve all of these individuals to the best of our ability. To refuse to give them access prior to the election is unconscionable. It is a statement that those who don't agree with you are unimportant.

Isaac Young failed to show up for a forum in which he had promised to participate. He did this without notifying the host or the other candidate involved. Grisham Bouma failed to show up for a forum in which he had promised to participate. He gave a few hours notice, and his statement made it clear that keeping this commitment was not his top priority.

I don't think it's unfair to say candidates should act more honorably.
