[Vision2020] Death of Jeff Martin

My wife and I were discussing this, why this is hitting so hard.  Yes, we
ran in the same circles as Jeff (the whole EMS/health care relationship,
kids in sports, etc), but it's not like we were friends.  Good
acquaintances, yes.  Jeff always had a kind word, always went out of his way
to say "hi" and have a bit of a conversation.  We didn't always agree, but
those disagreements were minor and in the long run we were working for the
health of our community.

I think my wife put it best:  You would think that being in EMS (in our
case) or working in health care (Jeff), the odds would be skewed a little
bit in our favor.  But, the saddest part, he didn't even die with EMS trying
to help him.  He died alone in a vehicle.  Very poignant.  Very sad.

Again, it puts a perspective on everything.  A wife and kids are without a
husband and father.  I wish some silly postcard was their only problem.

Thanks, Tom, for letting us know.  It is a great tragedy -- I met Jeff a
time or two and was very impressed with the very difficult job he did, and I
don't think I ever saw him without a smile on his face.

My heart goes out to his family, friends, and the Gritman community.

Visionaries  B.J. Swanson just called me.  Jeff Martin, CEO of Gritman, was
apparently killed in an auto accident last night on the way back to Moscow
from Elk River.  His family left earlier.  His car was found off the road
this morning.  No other details.  This is a great tragedy for Moscow.
