Idaho Fish and Game Director Cal Groen could face a trespassing charge in
Idaho County following an elk-hunting incident near Elk City on Sunday.

County Prosecutor Kirk MacGregor said today he expects the charge to be
filed soon.

"As I understand it, it is going to happen," MacGregor said. "There will
be a charge filed."

Groen, who is in Lewiston this week, said he expects to be presented with
a complaint on Friday and is cooperating with the investigation.

He confirmed there was an incident on property near Elk City. Groen, who
has headed the department since 2007 and previously served as supervisor
of the department's Clearwater Region based in Lewiston, said he wasn't
hunting the property but was helping others in his hunting party butcher
elk there. Other members of his party previously had permission to hunt
the property, Groen said, but the status of the land apparently changed
over the summer and he and members of his party were not aware of the
change.

Idaho County Sheriff Doug Giddings said his department is investigating
the trespass complaint against Groen.
