She said "unemployment" checks, not "welfare" checks. And she's
correct. Because food stamp benefits have to be entirely spent out by
the end of the month, and are likely to be spent on goods -- food --
that are American-grown, they have an unusually large stimulative
effect. Every dollar spent on food stamps results in $1.73 of economic
activity.
