Title:  City of Moscow Hosts Mandatory Grant Workshop for Applicants

October 4, 2010 - The City of Moscow is hosting a required workshop, October 6, 2010 at 6 p.m. in City Hall Council Chamber (206 E Third Street) for non-profit organizations interested in applying for this year's City of Moscow Community Grant Program. The grant application process has been improved this year to include this mandatory workshop has revised the method for review and recommendation for funding.

The City of Moscow has developed the Community Grant Program to work in partnership with the Moscow community to increase the range, accessibility, and quality of programs and services available to the community. The program has been developed to provide grants of up to $2,500 to community non-profit organizations wishing to conduct activities that further the goal of establishing a "Sustainable and Livable Community, with Engaged, Responsive, and Service-Oriented Government," as noted in Council Resolution 2010-16. These programs and services include activities and events that are consistent with the mission and role of the City of Moscow and which are found to benefit the residents of the Moscow. The Mayor and the City Council annually budget funding to support certain programs and services that can be more effectively provided by outside non-profit organizations. Funding changes annually based on City Council approved budget appropriations.

Grants may be awarded for programs, services, activities, events, or projects that will enhance in the ongoing development or maintenance of the recreational, social and cultural needs of Moscow, thus contributing to the overall development of the community.

The purpose of the Community Grant Program is to increase the range of, and access to, quality community recreational, social, cultural events, sustainable activities, programs and services; support community development initiatives and socially responsible community activities. The is achieved through the application process where particular consideration is given to those community organizations that can demonstrate the greatest need; and in order to encourage those organizations which enlist local support services in an effort to assist their programs; and ensure that the limited program dollars are effectively spent.

In order to qualify to submit an application a representative(s) from the non-profit organization must attend a Community Grant Workshop held by the City Grants Manager. The 2010 workshop will be held in the Council Chambers of Moscow City Hall, 206 East Third Street, Moscow, Idaho, from 6 to 7:30 pm, on October 6, 2010.

Applications are due Friday, October 22, 2010, 3:00 p.m. The applications will be reviewed by a five-member panel and recommendations will be submitted to the City Council for final approval and announcement at the November 15, 2010, City Council Meeting.
