[Vision2020] Sign seen in Genesee

Gary,

What is the alternative to welfare, food stamps, and unemployment 
checks?  It only makes sense that when the economy is doing poorly that 
more people would be falling on hard times and thus more aid would be 
needed.  I've never really understood why these programs are fought so 
aggressively.  Yes, the system is not perfect -  people can and do 
defraud the American people by abusing these programs.  However, for a 
great many people who have come upon hard times through no fault of 
their own these programs allow them to put food on the table for 
themselves and their families while they are trying to get another job 
and make ends meet.  We give millions in charitable aid to 
poverty-stricken countries and for disaster relief, but if we give many 
of our own people some help in a devastating recession it's criticized.  
It just seems odd to me.
