The 2010 hurricane season is under way, with the National Hurricane Center
predicting an above average intensity hurricane season for the Atlantic
basin, including the US Gulf, (

though a below normal season for the Eastern Pacific (

the Eastern Pacific this season has already experienced a powerful and
deadly tropical storm, Agatha:

The impact of storms this hurricane season in the US Gulf on the oil geyser
and mitigation efforts is of course a matter of great concern.  The National
Hurricane Center offers this document at the website below regarding
the influence of storms on the oil geyser releases and impacts on
ecosystems.  Some impacts might help mitigate the damage from the massive
oil releases, other impacts not, such as storm surge pushing oil deeper into
critical ecosystems on the shore.  It goes without saying, that a storm will
disrupt work on clean up or blocking the spread of oil or attempts at the
oil well geyser site to stop or slow the oil releases into the ocean:
