Deary teen admits to shooting passenger vehicles, chip trucks

One of two Deary teens accused of shooting at passenger vehicles and chip
trucks outside of Helmer on Jan. 22 admitted to those charges in court
today.

Austin Rickert, 14, admitted to two counts of unlawful discharge of a
firearm at a passenger vehicle, as well as one count of unlawful discharge
of a firearm at nine chip trucks.

Rickert also faced an additional felony charge after a pipe bomb was
allegedly found inside his bedroom while deputies were executing a search
warrant at his grandfather’s residence on Forks Road near Helmer. That
charge was reduced to one misdemeanor count of altering a firework.

He also agreed to pay restitution of $131.50 for shooting a highway sign.

The other teen facing charges in the incident, Austin Medlock, 14, will
have a court hearing at 1:15 p.m. today.
