Tentative UI security agreement reached
City, university still hashing out contract negotiations
The city of Moscow and the University of Idaho have reached a tentative
agreement for the university's security contract, though details are still
being worked out.
UI spokeswoman Tania Thompson said she could confirm the tentative
agreement, but she could not provide information regarding how much the
contract between the two entities would be for, or if any of the other
entities who made a proposal were still being considered.
"I cannot talk about the substance of the agreement, suffice it to say
we've had a good, long-term agreement with the Moscow PD," she said.
Previous proposals submitted have "exceeded the current funding levels" of
the university, according to a UI news release issued in May.
The other six proposals considered were provided by private security
entities from throughout the Northwest.
The request for proposals for the contract with the university were due by
Jan. 12.
Thompson said no time line has been established for making a final
decision on the agreement.
The city of Moscow has held the campus policing contract since 1966
through the Moscow Police Department.
The final agreement will be reviewed and requires approval by the Idaho
Board of Regents.
