Deary man arrested, charged with attempted murder

A Deary man is facing attempted murder charges stemming from an incident
early Wednesday morning.

The victim reported to the Latah County Sheriff’s Office around 2:30 a.m.
that she had been battered and choked. The suspect, Matthew Ortman, 38, of
Deary, then allegedly fired several rifle shots at the victim and into the
house, using a .308 caliber hunting rifle which was recovered at the
scene.

The victim did not sustain injuries from the gunshots but was treated and
released at the scene by the Deary Ambulance crew for injuries sustained
from the battering and chocking.

Ortman was arrested without incident and charged with attempted murder.

The sheriff’s office is still investigating the incident.
