Subject: [Vision2020] Goldwater Institute-Administrative Bloat at AmericanUniversities

Top universities across the United States have welcomed more students and received more taxpayer funding than ever in the past two decades. But instead of hiring more professors, universities are hiring armies of administrators that spend no time teaching students.
A review of 198 universities by Goldwater Institute Senior Fellow Jay P. Greene found that the number of full-time administrators rose by nearly 40 percent from 1993 to 2007, compared to an increase of only 18 percent in professors and researchers.
Ariziona State University is among the worst offenders in the U.S., as the number of administrators jumped by 94 percent, while the number of instructors actually declined.
Across the country, students are paying higher tuition and taxpayers are sending more money to colleges and universities to fund administrators, not professors. Until this trend reverses, polcymakers should not increase college and university budgets.
