So the logic that prevailed was that the experts (i.e. police officers) -
presumably with guns weren't able to handle the situation, so it must be a
good idea to give them to the whole council. :\

Gun rules for Raymore City Hall advance
The Kansas City Star

The Raymore City Council took a big step Monday night toward being able to
pack heat during meetings.

The council voted 7-1 on a package that would allow members to carry
concealed weapons during meetings and also would allow citizens to carry
guns into parks and into City Hall - except during council meetings,
because that is barred under state law.

The council also agreed to ask the Missouri General Assembly to repeal
that law and let cities decide the issue. It was a first-reading vote.
Final approval would come May 10.

"I was happy to see that logic prevailed over emotion," Councilman Jeff
Cox said after the vote. Cox's motivation in pushing the new rules is what
he calls the "City Hall massacre" in Kirkwood, Mo. On Feb. 7, 2008, a
gunman barged into a City Council meeting and fatally shot six people,
including the mayor, two City Council members and two police officers.

Cox tried the same package in January but was stymied by Mayor Juan
Alonzo's veto. Now because of the April election, Cox probably has the
votes to push it through.
