INK: 'Intoleristas' to celebrate with night of satirical song

Vera White

The INKster was pleased to get a "special invitation" from Moscow's Tom
Hansen to attend the Second Annual Intolerista Wingding set for May 15 at
the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre in downtown Moscow. The event begins
at 6 p.m. and stars Roy Zimmerman, a Californian who has been writing
satirical songs for 20 years, traveling around the country playing his
original music and building a national reputation.

In an attached review, the Los Angeles Times wrote: "Zimmerman displays a
lacerating wit and keen awareness of society's foibles that bring to mind
a latter-day Tom Leher."

And Lehrer himself says: "I congratulate Roy Zimmerman on reintroducing
literacy to comedy songs."

Although the INKster is not familiar with Zimmerman's work, she was always
a huge fan of Leher and his endorsement makes her eager to see the show.

Opening for Zimmerman will be Moscow pianist and songwriter Jeanne McHale,
"famous" for her ditty, "The Daily News Blues."

Doors open at 5 p.m. and the Wingding is free and open to all.

This free community event is sponsored by the Intoleristas, a local group
of concerned citizens whose goal is to nurture a sense of community in
Moscow.

"The Wingding is a chance for progressive, lefty and liberal folks to get
together and celebrate with an evening of funny songs about ignorance, war
and greed," noted Intolerista spokesperson Tom.

Shortly after the INKster received her invitation to the Wingding, she
began hearing rumors that Christ Church VIP's Doug Wilson and Dale
Courtney might be showing up May 15 to find out what all the fuss was
about, no doubt in disguise so as to not tarnish their reputations by
being seen at such a liberal gathering.

When the INKster opened an e-mail from Courtney on Thursday morning urging
people to attend the Tea Party that evening at Friendship Square, it
suddenly occurred to her what Dale might choose as a disguise.

Chances are he might come as Dianne Capps, the nut case from Clarkston who
spoke in February at a Tea Party in Asotin suggesting she'd like to hang
Washington Sen. Patty Murray. As the INKster recalls from seeing photos of
Capps, Dale wouldn't need a lot of makeup to pull off that disguise.

As for Doug, he could fool everyone by appearing with a halo around his head.

Thank you, Vera.

Note to Dale Courtney and Doug Wilson: Come as you are. Leave the dress
and halo at home, ok?

Seeya there, Moscow.
