[Vision2020] NYTimes: The Uneducated American

What I want to know is, how can we spend so much on education but teachers get so little in compensation for the work that they do?
 
I would think a teacher would be paid at least $36,000 a year, to start, and make up to $60,000 as a base pay for teachers. It doesn't seem to work that way.
 
I wish we could pass an Idaho State Initiative that would take a percentage of the property tax and give it to teachers compensation. 
 
I don't think Principals or Superintendents should be paid any more than the highest 10% of teachers. Not that they don't work hard, but that teachers have the hardest and most important jobs one can have.
 
It makes most sense to me, that we the people, be able to give taxes to teachers directly, rather than it being spend on something less important.
 
I feel a good teacher, and an engaged student body, can provide better education than all the fancy buildings and facilities can provide.
