MaryJane Butters creates 'sweet dreams' with new retail outlet

MaryJane Butters opened a retail outlet Friday that features her line of organic sheets and specialty chocolates.

MaryJane's Sweet Dreams is located on Jackson Street in Moscow with off-street parking available. 

Along with Butters, a longtime Moscow entrepreneur and organic farmer, the business is co-owned and managed by her daughter and son-in-law, Megan and Lucas Rae of Moscow.

This is Butters' second retail store. She opened one in Coeur d'Alene in August adjacent to the Coeur d'Alene Resort.

The new store is considerably smaller at 325 square feet, but "will contain a sampling of what we do," said Lucas Rae.

The outlet will primarily feature high-quality organic linens at a competitive price. For example, a queen-size set is $52.

The sheets are made from organically raised cotton without chemicals, including pesticides. Also, no chemicals are used to process or color the sheets, said Rae. "There's a great advantage to sleeping on something that's not full of chemicals that will off-gas while you're sleeping."

The process Butters uses gives a crispness to the sheets similar to a fresh-from-the-clothesline feel, he added.

The sheets are designed to fit an 18-inch pillow-top mattress.

That's the "dream" part of the store's name.

The "sweet" refers to the large selection of Idaho-made artisan chocolates available at the store. 

In addition to bedding, housewares and chocolates, the store will feature MaryJane's signature Budget Mix (an all-purpose organic baking mix), ChillOver powder (an alternative, nonanimal gelatin powder), and seasonal fresh produce and flowers, as well as MaryJane's books and magazines.

The location of Sweet Dreams is the former Moscow Style Center.

To honor those who love chocolate the most, all mothers will receive a free sample of the artisan chocolate on Mother's Day weekend today and Sunday.

MaryJane's Sweet Dreams is located at 425 S. Jackson St. Business hours are noon-6 p.m. daily. Sweet Dreams will open at 8 a.m. Saturday through October during the Moscow Farmers Market. For information, call (208) 882-2333.
