Tomorrow (March 17, 2009), the Idaho House State Affairs Committee will
vote on House Bill 216.

According to Idaho House Bill 216 (PHARMACISTS AND PHARMACIES - Amends and
adds to existing law to provide freedom of conscience for pharmacists,
pharmacies and institutions and that no person shall be required to
provide for any pharmaceutical care or drug that violates his or her
conscience) . . .

"541705. DEFINITIONS. In this chapter:

(2) "Conscience" means the religious, moral or ethical principles held by
any person."

 . .

541718A. FREEDOM OF CONSCIENCE FOR PHARMACISTS, PHARMACIES AND
INSTITUTIONS. (1) No person shall be required to provide for any
pharmaceutical care or drug that violates his or her conscience.

(2) No person shall be civilly, criminally or administratively liable for
declining to dispense or distribute pharmaceutical care or a drug or drugs
that violate his or her conscience.

(3) It shall be unlawful to discriminate against any person based upon his
or her declining to dispense or distribute pharmaceutical care or a drug
or drugs that violate his or her conscience.

(4) The provisions of this section do not allow a pharmacist, pharmacy or
institution to refuse to provide pharmaceutical care or a drug because of
the patient’s race, color, religion, sex or national origin."

If a physician or pharmacist decides that (s)he will simply refuse
services or medication to somebody because of personal religious, moral,
or ethical reasons (based soley on their own personal morality or ethics),
the state of Idaho says, "Hey, it's OK with me." Heck, service and/or
medication can be refused to a person simply because they are gay or trans-
gendered.

Perhaps maybe y'all would like to share your enthusiasm for this bill with
your elected officials, like those that sit on the State Affairs Committee
at . . .
