Moscow woman killed in duplex fire
Victim's identity, possible cause has not been released

A woman was killed in a duplex fire in Moscow on Wednesday morning.

Moscow Assistant Police Chief David Duke confirmed that a woman died in
the lower unit of the duplex, located at 904 Vandal Drive.

The identity of the victim has not been released. An autopsy is scheduled
for today.

The fire was first reported as a tree fire at about 7:51 a.m., but Moscow
Volunteer Fire Department firefighters arrived on scene at about 8 a.m. to
find visible flames coming out of the lower west window of the duplex.

"Most of the damage is on the west end of the building," Duke said.

The fire was extinguished within an hour. Crews remained on scene watching
for flare-ups and awaiting the arrival of the state fire marshal.

Idaho District I Fire Investigation Deputy Fire Marshal Mark Aamodt
arrived on scene shortly after noon.

Moscow Police Lt. Paul Kwiatkowski said the investigation into the cause
of the fire was continuing into the evening hours Wednesday.

Duke said the upper unit in the duplex was not occupied at the time of the
fire.

About 24 members of the Moscow Volunteer Fire Department responded to the
blaze.
