Again it's not my argument but the argment is based on an appeal to  
Ockham's razor: don't needlessly multiply entities. If the body is  
essential for eternal life, why think that the soul is anything other  
than a set of bodily manifestations? The way I explain it to my  
students is: if you can explain the missing carrots from your garden  
with the hypothesis that they were eaten by a single rabbit, why  
suppose instead that it was 2 or 3 or 10 rabbits that ate them? All  
other things being equal accept the simplest theory available, which  
suggests one kind of thing (body) instead of two (body and soul).
