Buy Local Moscow Welcomes 100th Member

One hundred locally-owned independent businesses have now joined Buy Local Moscow, explained John Crock, who owns Hyperspud Sports and serves as the group's treasurer. The group's 100th member is MaryJane's Sweet Dreams, at 425 South Jackson in downtown Moscow.

Buy Local Moscow Incorporated is an Idaho non-profit corporation directed by a steering committee of nine local business owners. This community corporation was founded in 2006 with 20 members. Each member business is locally owned and independent. The businesses are profiled on the website, www.buylocalmoscow.com

The mission of Buy Local Moscow is to strengthen the social and economic framework of Moscow by supporting and promoting the community's locally-owned independent businesses and by educating the community about the vital role of locally-owned businesses.

Recent research shows that locally-owned independent businesses form the core of a sustainable community. Increasing sales at local businesses keeps much more money circulating within the community (the money does not flow to corporate administrators and stockholders, but instead is spent for local products and services), and increases the number of jobs available to local residents. Those research studies, as well as books and magazine articles on this topic, are available through the American Independent Business Alliance ( http://amiba.net/recommended.html ).
