[Vision2020] Brrrrrr!

My 2007 Prius registered Minus Seventeen Fahrenheit degrees this
morning @ 03:45 starting south of the turnoff to Genessee on US-95.
On the return drive, at 7:45 a.m., it displayed -18F for a mile plus,
starting again, at the turnoff.
These are the lowest temperatures I seen displayed on either of
my two Prius'.
Of course my Prius' thermometer is not a "scientific instrument",
and who knows how "Mr. Toyota" calibrated it.
And I didn't have my precise thermometer with me to do some
checking. Besides, I was too sleepy eyed, getting up so early
to deposit a couple of Horizon Air passengers at LWS, to stop
and take any readings..
I found it highly interesting, though, how rapidly the temperatures
changed in very short highway distances.
I gather that the super cold temps are a function of the drainage
by gravity flow of the coldest air into locally lower elevation
pockets, plus the continuing cooling by radiation into the very
clear atmosphere.
