The following U.S. service members died while supporting combat operations in Iraq, confirmed by the Defense Department from January 30, 2009 through February 5, 2009:
 
Army Spc. James M. Dorsey, 23, of Beardstown, Illinois; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. 
 
Army Spc. Darrell L. Fernandez, 25, of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado.
 
Army Spc. Christopher P. Sweet, 28, of Kahului, Hawaii; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 172d Separate Infantry Brigade, Grafenwoehr, Germany.

Killed: 3; wounded in action: 6
 
March 19, 2003 – February 5, 2009 
Killed: 4,229; wounded in action: 31,010

Army Staff Sgt. Jason E. Burkholder, 27, of Elida, Ohio; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 130th Infantry Regiment of Marion, Illinois.
 
Marine Lance Cpl. Kevin T. Preach, 21, of Bridgewater, Massachusetts; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
 
Army 1st Lt. Jared W. Southworth, 26, of Oakland, Illinois; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 130th Infantry Regiment of Marion, Illinois.
