Visible smoke that can be smelled is all over the Palouse... I was relieved
to discover that, unless there is another fire(s) causing this smoke, it is
coming from Canada around Kelowna, B. C. Sad to hear, given that this is a
beautiful area of B. C., and evacuations etc. are involved; but this fire is
apparently not a threat to our area:

Heavy smoke and ash is visible in the eastern Washington and northern Idaho
due to the Terrace Mountain fire burning in Kelowna. Crews thought they had
a handle on the fire, but it flared up Saturday night and has grown forcing
more evacuations. Several people eastern Washington and northern Idaho have
reported seeing and smelling heavy smoke and ash, prompting them to contact
law enforcement concerned there may be a fire in their area.

According to a press release issued by The Emergency Operations Center.
an estimated 2,500 residents were forced from their homes by increased
activity by the Terrace Mountain wildfire late yesterday. Emergency Social
Services says 400 people were processed at the reception center.
Approximately 120 of them were provided with group lodging at Trinity
Baptist Church and at the UBC Okanagan campus. While some people slept in
vehicles and campers at the school.

There has been a region-wide response from Central Okanagan fire departments
to assist North Westside Fire Rescue with structural fire protection in
these evacuation areas. More than 60 fire fighters and a dozen pieces of
equipment are being supplied by Lake Country, City of Kelowna, District of
Peachland and District of West Kelowna.
