Public Invited to Join the Moscow Food Co-op's Eat Local Challenge*

For those who want to eat more locally-produced food, The Moscow Food
Co-op provides encouragement and assistance.

Visit the "Eat Local" link at www.MoscowFood.Coop
<http://www.MoscowFood.Coop> to find farmer profiles, sources of local
food, and info about local food available at the Co-op. The Co-op is
participating in the national Eat Local, America! campaign sponsored by
the National Co-operative Grocers' Association.

The Co-op will help by putting "Local" stickers and signage on items
that are local; even the deli will feature something local.

"We are encouraging people to try it in as flexible a way as they
want-whatever fits their lifestyle," says Carol Spurling, Moscow Food
Co-op Outreach and Membership Coordinator. "It could be eating local one
meal a week or one meal a day"

As an example of one eat local commitment, Spurling and her family plan
to get 40 percent of their diet from local sources (within 200 miles or
so) and another 40 percent from regional sources (within Idaho,
Washington, and Oregon). See her blog, www.palouselocavore.blogspot.com
<http://www.palouselocavore.blogspot.com>, for updates on her family
what they've found to eat. There will also be information about the
steps they are taking to supply themselves with food, like starting two
beehives and raising laying hens in the backyard.

Those who are taking the Eat Local Challenge are encouraged to sign up
by sending an email at outreach at moscowfood.coop
<mailto:outreach at moscowfood.coop>, following the link on the Co-op
website, or calling Spurling at 208-669-0763. Briefly describe your
goals, and let us know if it's okay to include your name in a list of
Locavores that we'll post on the Co-op website.
