Former Idaho Vandals football coach Tom Cable was named the interim coach of
the Oakland Raiders on Tuesday.

Cable was 11-35 in four seasons at Idaho - from 2000 to 2003. He was 5-6 in
2000, but 1-10, 2-10 and 3-9 after that.

Since then, he has been the offensive coordinator at UCLA and an offensive
line coach with the Atlanta Falcons and Raiders. He joined the Raiders staff
last year.

Cable replaces his boss Lane Kiffin, who was fired Tuesday after 20 games as
head coach. Cable will continue to coach the offensive line.

"I grew up a Raider, loving this team from the time I was a little boy,"
Cable said.

Cable was asked about his subpar record at Idaho during his introductory
press conference.

"Everybody has a past, everybody has a journey in life," he said. "For me,
it's been a great journey, not always success, certainly by the record I had
at Idaho. But at the same time, not many people moved the ball the way I did
in college football ... so I'm very confident that way. My whole thing is
you learn from your past, and I've done that. When I was a head coach for
the first time, I was 34 years old."
