This is disturbing to me for the same reason that the Boy Scouts of
America is, and the pledge of allegiance is, and any pseudo-military
reward system that encourages people -- youth especially -- to
festishize icons, whether those icons are living (Kim Jong-il, the
Dalai Lama), are dead (JFK, Halle Selassie, the Virgin Mary), are
inanimate (crucifixes, the flag, "brownie buttons"), or are places
(Mecca, Jerusalem).

Iconography == bad.
Free, rational thought == good.

It doesn't become more disturbing because it involves Obama.
