Do we need much further proof that this discussion has completely disintegrated, Chas' efforts notwithstanding, and that the writer posing as Donovan is a real sicko?

I agree that this has suffered more iterations than a Fibonacci sequence. On a similar yet different note, I have always enjoyed Galway Kinnell's restatement/revision of the original lines in question. I find his words to be as profound as they are deeply moving.
This is from his "The Book of Nightmares" at the end of the seventh (of 10) poems. He is speaking to his baby daughter in these lines.
Back you go, into your crib.
The last blackbird lights up his gold wings: farewell.
Your eyes close inside your head,
in sleep. Already
in your dreams the hours begin to sing.
Little sleep's-head sprouting hair in the moonlight,
when I come back
we will go out together,
we will walk out together among
the ten thousand things,
each scratched too late with such knowledge, the wages
of dying is love.
