It is a stimulus check.

It is called a stimulus check because the sole purpose of this money is to 
stimulate the economy.

One other thing:  As stipulated by the feds, only those people that have 
filed this year will receive these stimulus checks.

It really is just that simple.

"rebate".  I suppose it depends on your individual tax situation and what

with the money. Although a rebate spent certain ways could still lend 
itself to economic
stimulus.
