Family Fun Planned at Summer Fair
Everyone is invited to the Bike and Buy Local Summer Fair for family fun, with free admission, free live music and free bicycle activities for all ages. The summer fair, sponsored by Buy Local Moscow and the Latah Trail Foundation, will be on Saturday, July 26, from 5pm to 8pm, at the parking lot of NRS East (the former Tidyman's on the Troy Highway 8 at Blaine Road).
Live music will be provided by the Paradons, a four-member band playing danceable 50's and 60's rock 'n' roll beginning at 5pm.
Approximately thirty member businesses from Buy Local Moscow will have booths at the fair, offering bargains and free gifts. Fairgoers can bring a picnic supper, or can purchase dinner or dessert from the Buy Local Moscow member restaurants represented in the food court area at the fair.
Each Buy Local Moscow member booth will be donating 10 percent of their sales at the fair to the Latah Trail Foundation.
The Latah Trail Foundation is coordinating the bicycle contests at the fair. Anyone who wants to enter one of the six bicycle contest categories must register at the Latah Trail Foundation booth from 5pm to 6pm. Registration and contest entry is free. The winners of each of the contests will be announced at 7:30pm and awarded gift certificates from Buy Local Moscow member businesses.
The six bicycle contests at the fair will be:
1.. Slow Bike Race. Open to all ages, the goal is to be the last to complete the course, always moving forward without feet on the ground.
2.. Tiny Bike Race. Open to all ages, racing bikes designed for four-year-olds. Bikes will be supplied for racers.
3.. Best Commuter Bike. Open to all ages, displaying practical transportation for work and shopping.
4.. Most Unusual Bike. Open to all ages, displaying bikes that are decorated, home-made, or strange.
5.. Best Decorated Helmet. Open to children 12 and under.
6.. Best Decorated Bicycle or Tricycle. Open to children 12 and under.
At the fair, the Latah Trail Foundation will kick off a fundraising campaign to build the John Dickinson Trail Station adjacent to the NRS parking lot. The trail station is planned as a 27-foot diameter building, shaped like a grain bin, that will be a meeting place, educational space and staging area for future trail events, named for the former Moscow City Council member. The building is expected to cost about $32,000.
Donations for the John Dickinson Trail Station will be accepted at the Latah Trail Foundation fair booth. A display and model of the station will be at the booth.
