One dead in crash on Troy Highway

Moscow on the Troy Highway. One person was killed and two were injured in
the collision.


A man was killed and two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on the
Troy Highway today.

Idaho State Police Cpl. Steve Smith said the man, who was traveling west on
the highway, crossed the center line into oncoming traffic in his Chevrolet
Celebrity near Milepost 5. The Celebrity was struck on the passenger side by
an eastbound Ford Expedition.

The impact severely damaged the front of the Expedition and smashed the
passenger side of the Celebrity, partially peeling back the roof panel.

The crash was reported shortly after 8 a.m. The man, who had no passengers,
was pronounced dead at the scene. Smith said the man's body was transported
to Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow at about 10:30 a.m. 

Idaho State Police are investigating the crash. The official cause of the
crash was unavailable at press time, but Moscow Volunteer Fire Department
Chief Ed Button said weather likely was a factor.

The driver and passenger in the Expedition, a woman and a child, were
transported by Moscow Volunteer Ambulance to Gritman Medical Center in
Moscow. Button said the woman was holding her arm, but no further details on
her or the child's injuries were available.

A child safety seat was removed from the Expedition at the scene. The
drivers of both vehicles were wearing seat belts, Smith said.

Traffic on the highway was stopped or delayed for about an hour as fire
crews and Latah County Sheriff's Office deputies managed the scene. The
crash partially blocked the eastbound lane and spread debris across the
road.

One person is dead following a two-car head-on collision on the Troy Highway
just east of Moscow that was reported at about 8:15 a.m. this morning.

The crash, near milepost 6, had closed both lanes of the highway, but the
eastbound lane has since been re-opened.
