Right now, converting biomass into ethanol runs an energy deficit.
This isn't as bad as one might think, as the (generally accepted) ways
of calculating the deficit can't split multi-purpose land usage into
its various outputs. The split-outputs issue is, incidentally, the
largest benefit of cellulosic ethanol
