[Vision2020] being fair and even

It's no secret the US energy economy will be restructured, eventually,
whether we want to or not. The days of oil as a primary transportation fuel
are limited. If we got the US off foreign oil, this would be a major
restructuring. The problematic relationship with Saudi Arabia would be
dramatically altered, perhaps in the best interests of the US and the Middle
East. And I mean involving the close to a trillion dollars the Saudis have
invested in the US economy (gee, I wonder if this influences US foreign
policy?).
It can happen greatly via the private sector (though no doubt some corporate
interests will resist), so I don't know why Roger makes this comment by
Obama (if this is what he indeed said, and I'd like to read the full
context, ) out to imply only Socialism.
T. Boone Pickens, Texas oil man, long time Republican, Bush supporter and
Swift Boating of John Kerry financier, has a plan to replace 20% of US
electricity generation with wind power, then use natural gas, now used
greatly to generate electricity (Avista), to power transportation, within
ten years. This is a rapid major restructuring. Pickens recognizes that,
though the private sector can accomplish much, government regulation, etc.
has an important role to play... He is looking to the next administration
(he is deliberately staying non-partisan in the 2008 presidential race) to
push his ideas. An Obama or McCain administration will push to restructure
the US energy economy, and government regulation, changes in tax policy
etc. will be involved:

If Obama was a hard core Socialist, he would advocate total government
takeover of major sectors of the economy: the oil and auto industry,
pharmaceuticals, telecommunications and media, computers, software,
utilities and so forth... There are no Socialists in the US Senate.
