[Vision2020] Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Solzhenitsyn contributed tremendously to the overthrow of the Soviet
Union. Then he spent the latter part of his life devoting himself to
the intellectual support of what eventually came to be called Putinism
-- defending czars, trashing the cause of Russian democracy, and
generally working to turn Russia back into what it had been in his
grandfather's day. The personal recognition and medals he received
from Putin's regime weren't simply for his anti-communist work: they
were for lending his support and moral authority to the
nationalist-authoritarian Russian state.
It's sad to see someone who had worked so long and hard to tear down
communism die while attempting to build a nation just as sociopathic.
