Moscow Forum Planned about Buying Locally

A public forum on economic stability through buying locally will be held on Monday, September 24, at 7pm at the 1912 Center in Moscow. The Moscow Civic Association, along with the Greater Moscow Alliance and the Moscow Chamber of Commerce, are sponsoring the forum.

A five-person panel will discuss the way dollars spent locally support both the Moscow economy and Moscow's unique character. The forum will investigate how buying from Moscow businesses, and buying from the locally-owned independent businesses of Moscow, are consumer strategies that best support Moscow's economic stability.

The forum will also launch Buy Local Moscow, a new organization for Moscow's locally-owned independent businesses. Buy Local Moscow (www.buylocalmoscow.com) was created by 24 Moscow businesses.

The forum panel will include:

1.. John Anderson, UI instructor of virtual technology and design, the managing member of the Anderson Group, developers of the Jackson Street Silo Complex.

2.. Darrell Keim, member and executive director of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce

3.. Gerard Connelly, member of Buy Local Moscow and Moscow Chamber of Commerce, owner of Tri-State

4.. Stu Scott, member of Buy Local Moscow, member of Moscow Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and co-owner of Camas Prairie Winery

5.. Steve Cooke, UI associate professor of agricultural economics

Steve Busch, president of the Greater Moscow Alliance, said "the Greater Moscow Alliance stands for free market enterprise and is for promoting commerce in Moscow. We're also grateful for any sign of new economic life in Moscow and want to be in a position to help shape the conversation. Don't miss this opportunity to learn how spending money locally helps all Moscow citizens."

Bruce Livingston, president of the Moscow Civic Association, said "it is a pleasure to have the Chamber of Commerce and GMA join us in supporting 'Buy Local Moscow,' an economic development strategy that all can embrace. Supporting our local businesses gives us the most bang for our buck and the greatest opportunity to see those dollars re-invested locally."
